Put the pan and oil in, start up, start removing the plug wires one at a time, when you get to the right cyl the knock will stop. This will locate the place to inspect.
A double knock will mean the piston/ wrist-pin,
A single knock will be on the crank.
It takes .007-.012 clearance to make a knock .
IF the noise does'nt go away with the wires, it will not be crank related, then use a long screwdriver to your ear and locate the noise that way. A transmission funnel works good also , small end to your ear to find the general area, big end to your ear to zero in to the area. Hope this helps
