I"d like to see you efforts thus far. I know that you are attempting to duplicate the tool bar setup that Farmall used......nothing wrong with that approach.....but as you have found, the material isn"t always available. So, you have to think outside the box. You really don"t need solid square 1080 framing. I just took apart and old Allis 4 or 6 row cultivator and the tool bar was formed by welding two pieces of angle iron together...forming a square tube.....strong as hell. In fact most all tool bars use heavy wall square tubing, these days. The round cultivator shanks generally fasten to the square tubing by using 2 U bolts that terminate into a flat backing plate on the opposite side of the tool bar....is that clear as mud? Picture the cultivator shank at a 90 degree angle to the square tool bar. A U bolt goes around the top of the round shank, across the TOP of the toolbar and the ends of the U bolt go through a flat plate that has 4 holes in it. Then another U bolt goes around the round shank and UNDER the square tool bar and again, through the same flat plate. You honk all four bolts down and the cultivator shank isn"t going anywhere.
The IH wedge bolt set up is excellent, but as you found out....expensive.
