High charging rates (from a slightly discharged battery, and a good high output alternator) can cause a battery to gas quite heavily. It isn't boiling, it is making hydrogen and oxygen out of the water in it. If it is pretty full, (right to the rings) it will show some liquid on the surface. I would say it is normal. Rinse it down, charge the battery with a 6 amp, or 2 amp charger for a few hours and go from there, If it charges more than the 14.4 volts when near fully charged, the regulator needs to be changed. (another tip is to move the #2 terminal of a 10SI alternator, to the battery connection at the starter motor. This senses the true battery volts closer to the battery, and can lower the system voltage some what. 14.2 to 14.4 is however OK. JimN
