Third and forth gear on the countershaft in the trans are keyed to the shaft with a large Woodruff Key. If that sheared, it will have neither 3rd or 4th. All other gears will work just fine, and no stripping or jumping out will occur. If all the teeth stripped off of third drive gear, it would have made terrible noise, as it would if the countershaft gear teeth stripped.
