If its a gasoline fuel head look for a casting # on top of head. Some late 52 M and W6 tractors came with the same head as SM,SW6, SW6TA and SMTA came with. Numbers 8060 DC or 8574 DB. later head numbers 8060 DD and 8574 DC would be good. Most other M heads with a lower ending letter suffix will work. Number series tractors gas heads for 400 and 450 will also work, but require a top end ventilation change, most times are higher priced and will raise the compression. Almost all heads from M to 450 will bolt on and can be made to work, performance of tractor will not be the same for some of them. When looking for a head its best to go by the casting numbers, I would guess over half the tractors mentioned above don"t have the same heads that came on them. If your SM does I agree with James, if the crack is in a repairable place it may be best to have it repaired at a place with a good reputation unless you find a uncracked one for less.

Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
