The lube might be something like Mobil 600W. I don't think the "W" meant weight. It was just their product code.
However, the oil was thick and black. It was the recommended lube for my 1924 Graham Bros Truck. A similar product was in my Farmall 400. It was so thick that the TA wouldn't work. It took several days to get the oil out even after heating my shop to 90 degrees and placing two infrared heaters in close proximity to the rear frame. I replaced the oil with tractor fluid and the TA now works good. It seems highly unlikely that IH would have recommended that oil for TA equipped tractors.
Sometimes old habits die hard. The original owner probably thought he was doing right by the tractor. I was surprised that the old oil formulations were still generally available in the mid fifties.
