The problem may be the coil with the heavy contacts (cutout relay) it has a pull in winding with fine wires, and a heavy current winding with thick wires. If the pull in voltage is too high with the cap on, it will not pull in. Thus just barely weaken the spring on that relay so it pulls in a bit easier. The other coil adjusts the voltage when charging. If you have been making it tighter, that is not the answer. You may need to put it back to where it was. If when you loosen the other (cutout spring) too much, it will not cutout when the tractor is shut off, and the tractor will then discharge the battery rapidly into a smoking generator. JimN
