I am awakening a 1956 300U that has been idle for years. I have read all the posts about the inadequate Power Steering and have disassembled and checked the steering box and valve body, but as my tractor uses the stock front pump for the loader and therefore has a GM Saginaw pump to run the steering - which is lousy to useless - I have the following question: Does anyone know the PSI/flow rate of a stock 300U PS pump? The Saginaw is showing 1000PSI cold and only 300PSI hot and the steering is rotten. I'm told the flow rate on the Saginaw is only 3 GPM at 800PSI. Is this enough to run the stock power steering? Can I mount a heavy duty PS pump from the racecar and put 1600PSI at 4 GPM and expect any action or is the PS system not equipped to handle a loader?
