Agreed. If you get the 8-spoke wheel centers off a 400, 450, or 560, you open up the options to modern "double bevel" rims.
The 6-spoke M wheel centers are the older "drop center" style rim.
Cheapest option will be to cut and widen the existing rims as mentioned. Don't cut them in the middle though because that's what the wheel center clamps on. If you widen that part out I don't think you'll be able to mount the rims.
