The 2-71 came in a "kit". You did the install yourself and you had to do some of your own parts acquisition and fabrication. My father has an M with an original "kit". Has the proper engine (GM block), proper bellhousing, flywheel and variable speed governor as well as the other parts listed in the parts list. I have the original install instructions somewhere that verifies this tractor has the original "kit" per P/N match and not some back alley garage cluster... Currently in the process of cleaning up the original installation and doing a restoration on the rest. hopefully finished in time to make the trip across the Big Mac this fall...
There are a couple of 2-71 equipped M's floating around that are retrofits. A couple are very well done.
Original "Kitted" M's are about as rare as hens teeth...
There is also an MD with a 2-71 retrofit (not sure if it is an original GM kit or not) in Cheboygan. They do quite a bit of pulling with it...
