The foundries and the machine shops are not at the beginning of the assembly line. Your tractor was probably assembled in January or February 1955. It takes various times for the different castings and sub-assemblies to make their way to the assembly building. I don't see anything unusual about your date codes.
If my 400 (serial # 519) had "A" codes, I would know something had been replaced. Actually, it has one "A" code. It is on the mid-mount Electrall gearbox. That tells me it was installed as a kit after it left the factory.
One of my SMTA's (serial # 60177) was assembled in February 1954 on the first or second day of production. It wouldn't surprise me to find a "Y" code. I haven't looked.
