Case 1030 Remote Valves Failure - Took the fuel tank support off to gain access to the control valve housing for removal. I thought as long as I had to take it off anyway I might as well take the relief valve plug out and see what happens. There is not enough room to take the plug completely out but enough that it should leak. Nothing, no oil leak and that seemed strange. So with the plug cap resting on the housing below it and maybe one thread holding, I started the tractor and shortly it was leaking oil around the plug, not with pressure just leaking. So I moved the control valve lever back and forth and then all of a sudden the engine surged and the control valve assembly made an air ratchet sound. I shut down the engine and retightened the relief valve plug. Started the engine, moved the lever forward and the plow jumped up in the air. Moved the control lever back and the plow lowered as it’s supposed to. So, the remote valves are now working properly and I am happy I didn’t have to tear into it. I know that the relief valve will probably stick again and will need to be replaced. But hopefully it will get me by for awhile to get some things done.

Thanks for the knowledge and suggestions,

Dell

Oil In Coolant Resevoir - Awhile back I posted about straight oil being in my coolant resevoir on my 1987 Caprice. Not just little drops mostly all new clean oil. We had some good discussions from our vast knowledge base on this site. I have now had 3 oil changes - one free from the place that I originally found the oil- since then with no oil showing in the coolant reservoir. So... it seems in this particular case, the ones that voted it was too much oil to come from gaskets, cracks etc. were on the mark and it seems someone put oil in the coolant reservoir by “mistake”.

Thanks to all that responded.

Dell

300U Exhaust Part - Thanks to Dave in NY for purchasing the part. He sent Money Order Monday, Wednesday payment arrived and part was shipped, he received his part Friday.

That’s the way an honorable deal works every time.

Today's Featured Article - The Cletrac General GG and the BF Avery A - A Bit of History - by Mike Ballash. This article is a summary of what I have gathered up from various sources on the Gletrac General GG and the B. F. Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac. ... [Read Article]
