I had a similar, but very different, issue on my 300. If you pulled the center feed for the distributor, the one from the coil, and let it arc from the coil, the engine would run better. I kind of thought that the points were not separating well enough and by pulling the power and causing it to arc, then the coil would discharge better and cause better spark, but that was just me thinking and I don"t really know. I eventually switched to 12V and electronic ignition and now she fires and runs like a top.
