It's your tractor so don't worry about the correct police. I have never been to a tractor show where the tractors are judged. You are not working on an antique car or motorcycle.
There are three types of filters
Strainers Low pressure High prressure
A strainer is placed between the reservoir and pump. High pressure is after the pump and before the load. Low pressure is after the load and before the reservoir.
IH didn't use hydraulic filters in your size tractor until the 400. Most 400-450's today are running with a collapsed strainer in the reservoir. I have fitted several of my tractors with low pressure spin-on filters near the inlet to the reservoir.
