Scott: I question that figure, 60001 would be early 1954. I know of two Super M bought in the spring of 53 and came with tyrods behind the axle. I know this as I owned one of them, bought new by my neighbor, and he gave me his bill of sale. He also told me of another Super M bought the same spring at same dealer. There must be a misprint.
I know the Super H came out in 53 a year behind Super M. I've seen lots of Super H with tyrods behind axle. In fact I've never seen a SH or SM with tyrods out front. My dad bought a H new in 51, it had tyrods out front. He had real alignment problems, IH dealer tried to solve them. Finally he agreed to trade him for the new front end. He didn't do it due to cash involved, however I know the H was only about 2 years old. I also know, IH dealer had a bunch of those old style wide fronts in stock, when the new was introduced. I know some of them were cut up for scrap (NEW) 15 years later.
