Mike CA said: (quoted from post at 19:19:53 07/09/09) I haven't got my VR yet, and reading yet more complaints about VR's, I'm wishing that alternators could be fit into a generator body somehow, for an original look.
Anyone ever heard of that?
Well, Mike, I never would have imagined but, apparently from what others have posted, they are available. That's what I call "thinking out of the box" on your part. Please, don't get upset - that was meant as a compliment, not a criticism - of the "navy guy".
As expensive as they are (alternator in a gen body), you might want to reconsider the generator set-up. Personally, I am neither an alternator nor a generator strong advocate; I have had both - and both have worked for me.
Currently, all three of my old Farmalls happen to be equipped with generators (6v) and voltage regulators - a pure coincidence. Still, they work well - after I made sure each had a high quality voltage regulator - from NAPA or from Case/IH. I believe a HIGH QUALITY VR is the key to problem free charging with a generator. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
