I bought an aftermarket starter switch and mounted it on the starter after replacing the brushes and bushings in the starter. I reinstalled the starter and pulled the rod............nothing!
I disconnected the battery, removed the wires from the switch and the switch from the starter. I reconnected the battery and touch the wire to the stub on the starter body and it tried to crank. I did a continuity check between the brush and the terminal on the starter switch after reinstalling the switch onto the starter and there was no continuity between them no matter how hard I pulled the arm or pushed the button down. I pulled the switch back off and filed the mounting holes in such a way as to enlongate them allowing the contact in the switch to be a little closed to the stub on the starter and BINGO!......continuity.
I have not reinstalled the starter to make sure it is fully functional, but don't see any reason why it should not be.
