Live hyraulics came in about '53 on the Super M. Some of the older M tractors have live hydraulics by virtue of an M&W pump. Power steering on the M and SM were all aftermarket setups from Behlen or Charlynn. A 3pt hitch is handy, but make sure you get a good one. I have one that's functional, but not a real good one, and it is an occasional source of frustration. The Farmall M is a great tractor, and there's not a lot of differece between the early ones and those that were built more than a decade later. The SM is an improved tractor, but still has the solid M feel to it. For what you want to do with it, you might consider a Farmall 400 or 450. Most had power steering, they came with live hydraulics and pto, and most came with the TA feature, giving 10 forward speeds instead of 5.
