1) Most any generic or IHC light switch will work just fine REGARDLESS if youre at 6 or 12 volts because its voltage withstand rating is way higher then 12 volts let alone only 6, and similar, if youre at 12 youre probably drawing less current for lights then if at 6.
2) I would simply (also cheaper) replace all the lights with 12 volts versus using two 6 volt lights in series or some sort of ballast resistacne or solid state voltage regulators to obtain 6 volts.
3) Yes the same 12 volt battery will work regardless if you stay with an alternator or 12 volt generator and 12 volt Voltage Regulator, but be sure to Polarize the genny before start up.
4) If it has a coil igntion and youre at Neg ground, the coils + wires to the switch and its -to the distributor.
