The bayonet gauge is 11 1/2" long from where it connects to the washer. The checked full mark is 9 1/2" from the washer or 2" from the bottom of gauge. My operator's manuel suggest about 6 quarts of a good grade engine oil, or the same oil that you use in the engine of the tractor. It encourages you not to overfill the oil reservoir.
