Dear Gene My intent was to put a higher temp requirement on the paint/polish/coating. My muffs never et to 1700. But they have been red in the midsection many times. Our old SP125 12' ombine (with Herculese 6cylinder) had a valve go out. It was bright orange from #5 cylinder to one foot up the pipe. It was a flat head, and even the block was red around the manifold. Not good. It was the big mahine in 52. JimN
