I think you're down to the point of just needin' to get your jaw set just right and maybe tryin' a few magical or colorful incantations.
It's not unusual for them to be stuck a little. There is a little tension anyway when they fit right (their purpose is to keep moisture and dust that might get into the cap from getting down into the guts of it, so a snuggish fit is good) and they will stick. Without getting too muscular about it, try getting a pick, or the tip or blade of a penknife and work around it until you find a spot under the edge to get it started and it should come right up.
