The newer cubs the 154 and 185s [lowboys] were in the 14 to 18 hp range.
They all use the same C-60 engine, the bore and stroke are all the same. The only differance that we have found part # wise and threw talking to others is the pistons are differnt.
It turns out the piston pin location is off set raising the compression abit. Along with that the governor speed is 200 rpm higher.
I have cut both heads on my cubs to increase the compression. The 1955 is cut .060 and the 1954 is cut .100 with great results. There is a ton of material that can be removed so heating and fuel issues are "not" a problem.
Does it help "YES" the torque is the big increase , i'm able to plow heavy snow in 3rd gear now.
So if it's a little weak on power there are things that can be done to help with that problem.
