Just to have room to swing wrenches and be able to fish them out easily when I drop them, I'd take the fan off. removing the shroud is helpful but not necessary. With the shroud off, the radiator shouldn't be in the way.
Only other hint I'd offer at this stage is to set your motor up at TDC compression on #1 before you pull the governor, and don't let that motor move until you've got it back together. Not critical, but it sure makes it easier to time things back up.
