The winch is driven by the pto. There is a gear box ahead of the seat and a chain from the pto to the gear box then another chain from the gear box to the winch. It does have the heavy duty front axle. I have been a massey and john deere man until this tractor i bought it at an auction sale for 1000 dollars canadian and thought it was cheap and interesting. Never seen an I4 before this one.
