Question is I always heard you could put a 560 crank in them, gas or diesel where the same. what about a gas motor from a 403 combine?? Its a 263, would that crank work??
The cranks on the 263, 282, 291, and 301 are all dimensionlly the same. There are five different part numbers used. Early gas crankshafts are not suitable for use in diesels and will break in use. Early diesel crankshafts were not regrindable, standard bearings only. Because of the way they were hardened they will break if reground. The other shafts can be used in either type of engine.
A 263 crank will change the engine size from 236 CID to 282 CID. To put a crank out of a 263 into the 460 diesel you will also need the pistons for a diesel 282. Because the 263 crank has a longer stroke the pin hole in the piston has to be closer to the top of the piston so it doesn't hit the head.

We thought we could get by with this since the engine ran perfectly and would not need any internal work. After the cleanup and painting was done, we began reassembly and finally came to t
