On gasoline tractors in the SM and following tractors that size I think the 6 digit # followed by R1 started in late 54. Some other fuel heads had the R1 numbers before then. Head 8060 DC and 8574 DB were SM gas heads and late late M tractors. 8574 DC was a later head used on C 264 engines used in things other than tractors. It was also the gasoline replacement head for C 248 and also C 264 engines used in SM tractors. Late parts books will show a 6 number complete head for a gas SM but the basic head was still 8574 DC. 8574 DC and 8060 DD Started in 1955. Be interested to know what the date code on original posters 8574 DC head is, if readable.
