With Throttle completly closed and swithing lever on the gas side (mine lever would be in the forward position) start the engine as you would any other gas motor (mine usually needs a little choke)after start up in will be at a fast idle (remember there is no throttle for the gas side).I let mine run just until I see the temp. gauge start to move (about 2-3 minutes at cold startup). Pull back on the swithing lever while opening the throttle about half way and after some smoke and a couple of rattles it will be running on the diesel side. They are a neat piece of machinery and I never get tired of marveling at the engineering that must have went in to that engine.
