I think they are in series like old small base Christmas lights. As someone helps by pushing the button when you say push, check for voltage to ground along the circuit. If one is bad there will be no voltage going to the next plug, but voltage going into it. A simple continuity will also work most of the time, unless the glow filament is touching the contacts until it is given full voltage. Shorts to ground can also happen, burning out several at once.
