That makes sense. Actually, I was too young to remember why my dad bought that wide front. The tractor came on full steel, the rear was converted to cutoffs, and I believe a single front (rubber tire) was on it most of the time. That was vegetable country, a lot of crops in 20 inch rows. Single front was fine for that. In my opinion, all the WF does in our situation was make the turning radius larger. Perhaps he did it so he would have compaction in 2 rows instead of three when cultivating. I never drove the WF, but I don't remember any problem with compaction with the SF. I did ask him once why he didn't use an M instead of an H, as the H was boderline for tillage power sometimes. He said the M had too much compaction for a cultivator -- so he did think about those things.
