for what it is worth... i stopped by the ih dealer earlier this morning to pick up a head gasket for my 51 c. the interesting thing is it states on the factory gasket itself to use sealant. on all my prior automotive head gaskets i have always used copper high temp with success. the real benefit is up in the air but i know of no adverse effects of using sealant. i do believe an argument could be made that it should only be used SPARINGLY and wardner the reason that spray paint is sometimes used is it goes on even and if you wait until it is tacky it has good holding ability while you are lining up pieces. and it doesnt make a mess with excess run off.
