On a dyno or trial and error on a pulling track is the only way if thats whats going on. SM and 450 carburetors came with the same size venturi. Both can be tuned to your engine and if correct there's not much difference in my opinion. They do have some different mettering passages. IH didn't tune there engines for max. power. Max. power and a engine lasting for years of hard work are to different things. So if using higher octane fuel and just short runs power can be added by tunning.
