A quick update to let you know all know where we are in the process right now.

We started working on it 4/10, and we will be working on it about one or two times a week until school is out. I have over 20 kids interested in working on it, so I broke them up into two groups, and I'll alternate between the groups.

Tyler has an excellent idea with starting a web page for the project, and I have talked to one of my students who is not interested in working on the project itself, but is very interested in working on a web page for the project. It will take a little while to get up, but I'll let you all know when it gets started and updated. It was exactly what I needed for this kid - thanks again Tyler.

We have worked two evenings so far, and we have basically just been tearing things down. We have basically removed everything above the frame rails - gas tank, seat, stearing, manifold, head, radiator, etc. The kids thought that was pretty fun, but they haven't really got it in their heads that all of those parts that came off so easy will need sanded and put back on. There are enough kids going each time, so that should keep them busy for a while:) When we removed the head, at first glance I thought that it looked like one of the sleeves had pushed down in for some odd reason, but didn't really give it much thought. When we went back the second day and pulled the pan, the whole sleeve of the number 4 cylinder was laying there in pieces in the oil pan. The lip that I saw at the top was the groove that the sleeve seats into. I thought that was really odd - never seen or heard of it before, but that's what we have. We pulled the pistons, and did a little sanding that day too(it was the 2nd day of trout season here in PA - a lot of kids were "sick" that day so we didn't get much done).

I have a student that is keeping a log on our progress. I will try to post that log as often as possible until we get a web page up and running.

Thanks again. It is nice to know that there are people out there that are interested in this project. Feel free to e-mail me for any reason, and I will get back to you ASAP.

Mike Shultz
