3/4 hose should be plenty but the less restriction you can out on the suction side the better. Also the hose should be a suction hose. Any local Hydraulic shop can set you up, also ask them they will be able to tell you the proper hos. If you can find out how big of a pump it is for them to know....Also..is there a filter anywhere in that system, if not it may be beneficial to spend the few dollars and get one, alot cheaper than a new pump..
