Got tired of taking tires to town (10 mi. rd. trip), usually having flats on week-ends or in the evening, so I bought one of those $69 tire machines, a few patches, some tire irons, patching cement, etc., and started fixing my own. Probably do about 20-25 a year for me and the family. Anyway, yes, if the crack is not too long, patch it like you would a tube. Be sure to buff the area well and let dry before applying the patching cement. I try to stay away from tubes as they seem to cause more trouble than they are worth.
