There ought to be at least a single letter (B,L,A,G,F) if not other short indicators (BAT, L, ARM, GEN, FLD) stamped right into the pins on the regulator. Sometimes they'll be obscured by the terminals on the wires attached to them. Sometimes it might take a brushing with a stiff toothbrush or soft wire brush and a little cleaner to reveal them. It would be unusual, but you might find them marked under the cap instead of on the pins. If they're just plain not marked, it might be worthwhile to start with a new one.
I've replaced a few cutouts and relays, but not enough to recall or say whether there is a standard pattern (or two) for the pins. If there is, maybe somebody can chime in to describe it to get you going.
