M and SM would be the same. Some of the newer brackets sold are balkier than older brakets. Said the heck with it on the last couple power steering units I installed. Modified the old gauge bracket with the hood hold down stud to stay there, also holds hood up and made the rest of bracket for the char lynn. That way if needed a rubber pad can be put on the stud under hood to hold it up just a little more. Maybe with your bracket one trick is to space the fuel tank up a little higher at the mounting studs. Also helps on lining gauges up with holes if your bracket has them higher. May throw the fit of hood off at front a little, but usualy not noticed. Of course the tank can't be raised enough that the steering shaft rubs it. 1/4 to 1/2 inch is enough most times.
