So in other words if the valve is shut off the motor receives full pressure , but when opened it reduces line pressure (bleeds off).
Actually then what you are doing is setting head pressure at the motor and to shut the auger off you open the valve so there is no pressure just a flow.
Damn simple thinking, but it works. Basically creating a pressure leak.
