A 41 will have originally used a light switch based gen control. (Low charge, High charge, Dim, Bright) This must be completely out of the system to use a regulator. The F terminal on the gen must be directly connected to the Field terminal on the VR. The wires to the light switch must be abandoned. As John T points out, good grounds must be made at all parts, and the Gen must be polarized (Tractor off, all wires connected, jump for one second between Gen terminal of VR to Bat Terminal of VR making a nice spark) JimN
