I will try and explain what I did to make this thing work. First you must remember the 153 is about one inch taller and one and a half longer. You can make brackets to raise and move the fuel tank forward. I used some insulation on the front of the tank because it gets awful close to the manifold. I used a 140 radiator. But I had to make a bracket and some rubber insulators to raise it up so the hood will be level. Like John said, the exhaust is a problem. I have some pipe plumbing there now to bring the exhaust back to center but I do not like that. I have to play with it somemore. He is also right. The crankshaft is not drilled. I used a Super C flywheel with a 404 clutch and pressure plate. I had a friend cut the center in a lathe and we pressed a pilot bearing from a 300U into the hole. The clutch shaft has to be shortened about 11/2 inches and the pilot bearing portion of the shaft turned down to accept the 300U bearing. I used junk yard parts for this the first time just in case I messed up. I used the combine fan for cooling. It has more blades and i thing it will cool better. Kinda sounds like an airplane though. There will be other minor brackets to cut and make such as the upper radiator mount that holds the grill in place, etc, but you just have to work your way thru these minor adjustment steps. One area I still do not have complete is the air filter. The 153 has no mounting holes for it and a Super A or C is too small for it anyway. I have a 504 air cleaner, but I would have to make brackets to mount it and the manifold is in the way to bring it out thru the hood. I have a car type little round air filter on it just now...but I don't like it. The 153 carb is much larger where the air hose fits on. And the speed. I have to find out just how this engine is turning and slow it down. It is way too fast. I think it will be ok for a belly mower, but I am afraid to put too muck on the drawbar. I don't think the transmission will take it. When I get her done I will try and get some digital pictures and get her on here. She's not real pretty just now. So far it looks close to stock until you look at the manifold and the 153 on the block. By the way, I tried a 135, but it was too wide at the bell housing. It was wider than the 153 for some reason. Don't make sense I know, but it was. Have fun trying to make it work...I have so far. George.
