THANK YOU!! to The Red, Bob M, Jim, Rick in NC, & mj delaney for your help with my gov. problem on my '41 H. I found out that the old girl doesn't care what it says in the manual as to how to adjust the gov. to carb. linkage. After reading all the postings and basically trying everything suggested I thought I would try missadjusting it and see what would happen. The first thing I did was loosen the screws at both ends of the gov. to carb. shaft. I then started the tractor and moved the shaft housing up and down at the gov. I was able to stop or start the surging by this movement. I then tightened the screws (carb end first) and adjusted the gov. rod under the angled riser cap to the point where I was able to stop the surging about 95%. With the engine off and the hand lever at full throttle the pin should slide freely in and out of the clevis on the gov. to carb. shaft. No way on this old girl. Heck, half the hole is gone! With everything assembled and at full throttle there is enough torque on the pin that you can't move it. I guess she likes it this way! There is still some surging at 1/3 throttle, but anywhere else it is fine. I think a little running may help. She's been setting for some time. Thanks again for all your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ed.
