Don, the manuals don't specify because tire brand and style was subject to change. Tires came from the manufacturer who could provide the best deal at the time, and could actually provide the tires. Any of several different brands and styles could be fitted.
Any tire that was being produced in the 1950s, though, has been out of production for decades. The most prudent course of action here would be to use tires that could considered to be "period correct."
The oldest tire style currently in production that I know of is the Firestone Field & Road, which has been around since the 1960's. You would see these on American Hs and Ms as replacements when the tractors were still "front line" working machines. They're a 23 degree straight lug, though.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
