During the first few months of Modern view, site management claimed that only 10% of the total site usage was modern view. I don't think it has changed much.
I open up a tab on my browser for each style. I can click back and forth. They both have good but different features. Preference may have something to do with an individual's daily frequency. For someone who looks at YTMag every couple of hours, Modern makes more sense. The once-a-day guys are better off with Classic.
If there was only one style, I would prefer Classic. I usually post in Classic so that response continuity is maintained. Most of my posts have pictures and image URLs are different between the two styles. In some cases, the URLs won't be opened by the other view. That means I have to back up and post both image URL's on both views. That's annoying.
The best part of Classic is that a reader can scan the topic page faster. My decision to open a thread is often influenced by who has contributed to a topic. For instance, I have no interest in A's or later variants of the Cultivision tractors. But when Hugh MacKay replied, as he always did on those topics, I would open the thread. There are several other unnamed contributers that I have the same interest in.
