Like Owen says, the aluminum filter base had lots of problems with the fiber type valves, and often eroded the seat as well. I installed several of the newer style metal valves along with a heavier spring that was included in a gasoline engine overhaul improvement kit with new distributor and various other parts that IH came out with to help improve the life of these engines.
