Depending on the crack I'd be half tempted to leave it alone. If it is in a nonpressurized area of the cooling/oiling system and all it's doing is just weeping alittle oil just check your oil every so often and run it. A pressurized leak is another matter though. My dad's M has a crack in the block running horizontal on the motor on the opposite side you mention and it's been that way for 40 years. Hasn't hurt it yet.
