I think the G cotton picker suffix is for a cotton picker tractor attachment and would be on a tractor serial number. This G is on an engine number, not the unit's serial number. I have seen the G suffix on A/B tractor engines when the tractor had no particularly noteworthy features. I have a B with it on the original engine. I suspect in the case of the A/B and this engine it indicates a gasoline engine.
By the way, in 1944, the only cotton pickers were experimental. I don't think a U-2 was ever used on a cotton picker (although they did put some low drum units on the Super C).
