My old A done the same thing when I was in a parade with it, it bogged down making a slight popping sound and then shut off. It would pop out the exhaust really loud when I tried to start it after that. When I tore it down, I found the the governor gear and the cam gear both had a couple teeth missing and it had jumped time. It was a lot of fun to fix. I have picture somewhere. Yours might be something different, but you will have to check timing first to rule it out. My grandpa told me a long time ago that the distributor shaft in the Super A went bad and it also acted similarly so it could be a number of things.
