Back in the day we mounted the first two weights using long boolts thru the wheel. After that we used square headed bolts in the slots of the preceeding weight. Usually adding 1 weight at a time that way but sometimes would use longer bolts & add two weights. Have gone as high as 8 weights doing that.
I know tractor pullers use grade 5 or 8 ready rod but I never was a fan of ready rod & only use it as a last resort or in an emergency.
