i dont assume anything on these old gals. pull the spark plugs, see what they look like. squirt some automatic trans fluid in each cylinder. get a couple empty 5 gallon pails, loosen the rear end drain plug and check for water. if you drop the drain plug, about 8 gallons of gear oil may come out(thats why the buckets) also loosen the lift all belly pump drain and check for water. same with the engine. put the tractor in gear, 3rd or 4th and rock it to see if the engine is loose. leave it in gear, block the clutch pedal down and see if it releases when rocking the tractor. go over all the grease zerks with a couple pumps of grease. also remove the two screw head plugs at the distributor and install a zerk to get grease in there too. you also may want to pull the velve cover and check the valves to see if they are stuck. some penetrating oil or trans fluid on them wont hurt either. if the mtor is loose, roll it over with the crank or bump the starter and watch the valve train.
