I just traded an Allis C for this H and I have a few things I need to do to it. One thing is that the rear rubber is mismatched, with one side a 10x38 Wards Riverside with a lot of tread and the other a Goodyear 13.6x38 that is worn down very low. I am wondering if the 10 is the old designation for 11.2? I was told it had a 12.4 on that wheel, but it looks too narrow for that. Does the 13.6 look too far gone, or should I look for another worn one to match it? I am looking to spend as little as possible, so I am wondering if I could sell the 10 or if it is too odd-looking and wouldn't be worth anything. I am planning to use the H for haying and hauling wagons in the woods, if that affects how much tread is needed. My second question is about the tranny/rearend. It is frozen solid since we had a couple of nights around zero, and I don't know how much water it has in it. I pulled the rear end drain plug and there was solid ice behind it. I am wondering if I cover the tractor with a tarp and run a 35k BTU salamander under there if I can thaw it out enough to drain or if I should just wait till spring. I am sorry this is so long-winded. Thanks in advance for any advice. Zach

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
